Yo Gaba Gaba Birthday Cake

A local Crestview Mother called that had previously had one of my wedding cakes and requested a Yo Gaba Gaba birthday cake for her daughter Liza Grace.  Specifically, she wanted one that had a fun inside to match the crazy rainbow colors of the characters.  She had found a picture that had incorporated the boombox and the 5 main characters (Muna, Foofa, Brobee, Toodee, Plex) and asked if I could create something similar. As you can see below, it captured the essence of the show pretty well!

So I made a 2 tier cake with the magic boombox and the 5 characters made out of gumpaste.  I focused on making the characters as detailed as possible from the antennas on Plex’s head to Brobee’s dark green stripes. The inside was my confetti cake: buttermilk vanilla cake with Jimmy Sprinkles.I must confess Yo Gaba Gaba is my favorite kids show.  I like to watch it with my 5 yr old daughter and sing along to the AWESOME songs. Example:

“Don’t………… Don’t!………. Don’t bite your friends!!!”

And every year for my husband’s birthday I like to post this youtube video on my husband’s facebook page since Yo Gaba Gaba is amazing!!

Are their any kids shows that you enjoy watching even as an adult? Feel free to check out some of my other cakes with childhood themes from the books of Dr. Seuss, smartphone games like Angry Birds, & every boy’s dream of becoming a pirate.

Supreme Pizza birthday cake with all the toppings!!

I was excited a few weeks ago to get a call from a mom wanting a custom cake for her daughter’s 5th birthday. Her girl’s favorite thing was pizza so she wanted a cake that looked like pizza. Once again, I had never made a cake like this but was confident this supreme pizza birthday cake would turn out perfect!

How do you think it turned out? I took the time to actually shred the white fondant into a cheese grater to give the pizza that realistic look. The mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, black olives, and meatballs were carefully crafted to match the appearance of their real life counterpart. Thanks to Mia’s Italian Restaurant here locally I was able to get a pizza box that was generic and just said “From your Neighborhood Pizzeria”. (By the way, this Italian restaurant has amazing cheese sticks).

To achieve the desired appearance of a deep dish pizza crust, I added a light layer of graham cracker crumbs to the frosting around the edge to give the look of a garlic pizza crust. I wonder if the little girl was surprised when she took the first bite and realized it was a delicious tasting butter cake with vanilla buttercream frosting? Here is a close-up of the pizza cake below.

It was a fun cake, and a “pizza cake” to make 🙂 Looking for other birthday cake ideas, check out my gallery!

His and Hers Harley-Davidson….. Cakes!

I love it when I get to make cakes for people that I’ve known for most of my life.  Several months ago, a friend from middle school contacted me, because she wanted to get a special cake for the special man in her life.

Mitzi and Myron love riding their Harleys, so a Harley-Davidson cake was a must for Myron’s 50th birthday!  When I think of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, I think of clean lines, sleek bodies, and of course FIRE!  So I wanted to incorporate those things into Myron’s cake.

Myron's 50th Harley Davidson birthday cake!

As things usually go in life, when I was finished with Myron’s cake, I moved on to the next task at hand, and didn’t think much more about it.  But a few weeks ago on Thursday morning, I got a frantic phone call from Myron telling me that he needed a cake for Mitzi’s birthday party on Saturday!  Someone must have been doing some serious praying, because I actually had a light cake load that week.  So with only 2 days notice, I was able to make a cake for Mitzi, too.

Now not to be outdone by Myron’s cake, I had to come up with a similar design, because Mitzi loves her Harley just as much as Myron does.  So I took the Harley cake to a whole, new level….. a super, GIRLY level!  I had to keep the flames but instead of orange, I made them PINK!  and added some bling to make it even better.  From what I hear, it was right up Mitzi’s alley.

Love the pink flames! And the sparkly border 🙂

*Note to the fellas!  Requesting a cake 2 days before you need it is a very dangerous gamble.  Myron got lucky.  You may not.  Book your wife/girlfriend’s cake early!!! 😉
